Unlike my last post of Nice with the sun’s presence, today’s pictures are grey and gloomy. We are finally experiencing some cold weather and rain. When the sun goes away, it is cool and windy. A few days ago we experienced a severe thunderstorm at night. The winds were growling and window shutters slammed with force throughout the night. The night sky flashed brightly, like the flash of a camera. The colors ranged from being bright white to an azure blue. It was fascinating to watch but kind of scary as the winds were so strong I thought the windows were going to break. When it’s windy here, it’s fierce, and we have to make sure our windows are secured for fear of damage. There have been plenty of times when our balcony doors busted open because of the wind, causing the windows in the other room to open and slam shut. It’s quite alarming when it happens because the force is so severe we were certain the windows were going to break or crack.
The warmest time of the day now is late morning when the sun is strong — if there is any sun for the day. We now soak up some vitamin D on our balcony during this time, enjoying the warmth before it goes away. Without the sun’s warmth it gets chilly, and I now find myself bundled up in a blanket and fleece, drinking herbal tea.
We ventured out into the cold the other day and noticed the city has begun putting up Christmas decorations. I look forward to when it’s finished, when the night is lit up with colorful lights. That is one thing I enjoy very much during the holidays. I hear December is when all of these holiday decorations will be up in Nice, with winter festivities in the agenda. I look forward to it, but just like any other city around the holidays, this will be one of the busiest times of the year.
