Paramount Ranch

Lights! Camera! Action!

The Paramount Ranch, a “movie ranch,” was used by Paramount Pictures to film western movies and shows. Some of the western movies were filmed from the 1920s to 1930s. But more recently in the 1990s, the TV series Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman was filmed on this site.

The remnants of the Western Town is left behind at the foot of many hiking trails in the area. Just four miles from our home, we almost overlooked this scenic area of the Santa Monica Mountains. It was fun to step into cowboy land as we looked inside the old movie buildings. The little town has its own sheriff station, U.S. Marshall, produce store, general store, mining equipment, rooms, and saloon. Inside the sheriff station, a jail cell could be seen. We imagined cowboy action shooting from those earlier days as we strolled the dirt grounds; it piqued our interest in western movie filming. I may have to check out an episode of Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman to check out this Western Town in the scenes.
