This past weekend we visited Ojai and Ventura. Originally we wanted to move to Ojai first and because we are still interested in moving there, we thought we would visit. Just an hour from Agoura Hills, the drive wasn’t too bad. Ojai is a very small town, semi-rural surrounded by mountains and orange and avocado groves. Scenic and relaxing, the place is a mix crowd of bikers, conservatives, artists and hippies. We felt the small-town vibe and experienced the boho vibe. It’s a nice little place and we like the location. Ojai is a great weekend getaway for others in the area when seeking spa time, relaxation or outdoor activity. When we went, we decided to go road biking. After I had injured my ankle, our mountain biking was on hold so Nick stopped shopping for his mountain bike then, though we had already purchased mine just before I injured my ankle. Yes, it has been a long wait; however, Nick recently purchased his and now we’re waiting for the order to come into the shop. And since we’ve both been itching to ride, we settled on renting road bikes in Ojai for the day. Doing so, we were able to explore the scenery there while being active.

We rented our bikes from The Mob Shop. I really recommend doing so with these guys if you’re in Ojai and want to bike. Tim, one of the owners, is awesome and will help you fitted to the right bike and your needs. The service there was fantastic and we will definitely return for their service. We enjoyed the road biking experience there so much, we’d invest on road bikes if we live there.

Ojai has an awesome 16 mile bike path that takes you down to Ventura, all the way to the beach. We rode that path to Ventura and back to Ojai and had an awesome time.

Lots of squirrels on the beach. That chubby guy is munching on Nick’s bar crumb.

At the end of our ride, we went to The Farmer and the Cook for dinner in Ojai. This vegetarian/vegan joint is 100% organic and uses fresh ingredients picked straight from their farm that day. We ordered the same dish, Huarache, off of their daily Mexican menu. The food was different and delicious.

Huarache: thick corn tortilla with potatoes, onions, green peppers, cashew cheese and a red pepper sauce. Served with rice and beans and fermented cabbage.

After dinner, we checked out downtown Ojai and other parts of town. An awesome time there, we will definitely return. But will we move there? Possibly. We’re still not sure as the next place we’re going to check out is San Luis Obispo.

Downtown Ojai

Downtown Ojai is very small. This is a far shot of it. It starts at that white tower on the right and lasts for a length of about two more blocks.
