Last Saturday was Vegfest 2015. Held at Fiesta Gardens on Lady Bird Lake, we walked the short mile across the river from our place on that cloudy and humid day. The green lawn was dotted with white tents, housing the different local vegan vendors. A live band played on stage entertaining attendees’ ears, and those enjoying food ate on the grassy hill with a view of the river.
We spent a couple of hours perusing, checking out every vendor, conversing with some, and then grabbed some food. It was a good time, and we even learned that there is a vegan travel agency, Veg Voyages, that coordinates a unique vegan adventure tour in places like India, Malaysia, Bali, Sumatra, Thailand and Laos. It piqued our interest, and we may have to check one out for the experience at some point.
Happy Vegan Baker is a healthier organic vegan baker in Austin. They do not have a storefront because they only do catering and farmers markets. I was curious to sample their cupcakes, and the verdict is that they are yummy. I do like their cupcakes better than Capital City Bakery because it’s lighter and a lot healthier for a bakery in Austin.
Though we knew about Vegfest, this was our first time attending one. We had missed other ones in other cities but planned on attending this once — so glad we did.
