Thunderstorm over Austin. Picture taken by Craig Ballin in 2009. Although an older shot, this is an example of how severe the thunderstorms are here. It’s quite impressive to look at, but not so safe to be in. Lately, we’ve had many thunderstorms so we’ve been inside a lot. We even had to cancel a trip out to San Antonio to avoid any potential dangers of flooding.

the day darkens, gloom
cumulonimbus clouds near
bringing forth danger

tornado threatens
heavy rain, pouncing on earth
flooding paths outside

thunderstorm crashes
lightning strikes, illuminates
angry loud rumblings

trapped inside, waiting
awaiting bright sunny days
but darkness surrounds

  1. be safe…from all this extreme weather caused by man made global warming….if only drought stricken california could get a little of that rain…

    • Thanks! Yes, CA could use some rain for sure. Looks like we’re back to sunshine again for this week and on. The worst of it has happened. I’m glad it’s over for a while.
