On our recent stroll at Mueller Lake, we visited the sculpture Arachnophilia nearby. For those interested in seeing, it may be a little tricky finding this hidden gem from the park. Located on Berkman Drive and Tom Miller Street, it is across from a senior citizen housing. Look over to the grassy field and you won’t miss the giant spider.

amid sunflowers
stands a giant arachnid
twenty-three feet high

brown, strong and sturdy
its rusted metal legs arch
doorway to its soul

deep round purple eyes
she looks towards Austin’s sky
her vision not good

carrying her young
of glossy blue and turquoise
in swollen silk sac

deeply grounded stance
she’s a work of art display
made by Dixie Gay
