On our last day we visited Iao Valley State Park. Situated beyond Wailuku in Central Maui area, the verdant valley encompasses 4,000 acres of land. It’s known as Maui’s natural historical landmark, with its main attraction the Iao Needle. This “needle” is a green-mantled volcanic skyscraper, towering above the Iao Stream.
We walked the trails within the valley, streamside, watching locals soak up the sun as they immersed themselves in the ice-cold water. Girls shivered and hugged themselves, teeth chattering. Some sat on large rocks, dangling their feet, flirting with the icy stream.
It was a nice visit and we definitely enjoyed our exploration within the valley. The green beauty, fresh air, and pleasant sounds of birds chirping made the visit peaceful — Earth’s sanctuary, where if you listen closely, Nature greets you, her voice eddying soft music into your ears.
